Leonie (N.C.) Visser holds a master’s degree in medical psychology and obtained her PhD cum laude from the University of Amsterdam (in 2017), on the topic of physician-patient communication in the oncological context. Her current research focuses on early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and dementia prevention. Working at the department of Medical Psychology and Alzheimer center Amsterdam (both part of Amsterdam UMC), she aims to enhance the (active) engagement of patients and citizens (at risk) in healthcare, by investigating stakeholder perspectives and optimizing clinician-patient communication and digitally provided information. To that end, she develops evidence-based tools (in co-creation) to support in-person and online medical communication. Since 2020, she is also affiliated to the Center for Alzheimer research at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
