Jean-Charles Lambert is a recognised specialist in Alzheimer's disease (AD), as his career shows (with more than 230 publications, more than 44,000 citations, google scholar) and participates to the identification of a large part of the known genetic determinants of the common forms of AD. He began his research by working on the involvement of the APOE gene in AD and defended his PhD in genetics and neuroscience at the University of Lille I, (1999, France). After his PhD, he moved to the University of Birmingham (UK, Marie Curie Fellowship) and continued to work on understanding the role of APOE in the AD process. At the end of 2001, he was recruited by Inserm as a permanent researcher at the Institut Pasteur in Lille. In 2006, he became the leader of the Inserm team "Research on the molecular determinants of neurodegenerative diseases".
The projects developed by his team require integrated approaches, including the development of epidemiological approaches, high-throughput genomic methods and an essential bioinformatics backbone. He coordinates the European Alzheimer&Dementia biobank (EADB) which is the largest effort in genome wide association studies worldwide and is co-PI of the international genomics for Alzheimer's project (IGAP) and the Alzheimer disease exome sequencing (ADES) consortium. His project also involves the development of relevant in vitro and in vivo experimental models from the most interesting genetic determinants that have been characterised.
