The European Working Group of People with Dementia (EWGPWD) was launched by Alzheimer Europe and its member associations in 2012. The group is composed entirely of people with dementia, who are nominated by their national Alzheimer associations. They work to ensure that the activities, projects and meetings of Alzheimer Europe duly reflect the priorities and views of people living with dementia. The Chairperson is also an ex-officio member on the Board of Alzheimer Europe with full voting rights.
The members of the EWGPWD actively participate in Alzheimer Europe's annual conferences and give presentations and/or represent the group at other international events and meetings, both in their countries and internationally (for example, at the European Parliament in Brussels or the Dementia World Council). They contribute to consultations and do Public Involvement work for different European projects in which Alzheimer Europe is a partner, as well as contributing to other areas of the organisation's work. Members of the group have also contributed to research conducted by external organisations and have co-authored articles published in peer-reviewed journals on the topic of Public Involvement in dementia research.
