Katariina joined the Alzheimer Society of Finland (Muistiliitto) in March 2019, when she was appointed as Executive Director of the association. She has completed her Master’s degree in Social Sciences and has also studied pedagogy, coaching and has qualifications in leadership and management.
Katariina has over 20 years of work experience in different NGO’s and has also volunteered and worked as a board member in various organizations. Currently, Katariina is a member of Human Rights Delegation of The Human Rights Centre in Finland, a board member in Finnish Brain Council and a council member of SOSTE, the Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health (the umbrella organization of 200 social affairs and health NGO’s and partners in Finland).
Katariina has a big interest in human rights and equality issues and what motivates her in the work, is to bring in the voice of people with dementia. She sees strengthening the rights of people with dementia as the most important task of both the Alzheimer Society of Finland and Alzheimer Europe. Rights based work should be done both in European and national policy level, but also in everyday lives of people.
Katariina Suomu was elected to the Alzheimer Europe Board in October 2022.
