About
My name is Jost Hamschmidt. I am 59 years old, married and live with my wife and our two sons in St. Gallen (Switzerland), while our daughter is studying abroad. In 2021, I was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer's dementia. Through attending meetings of mosa!k, a regional association in eastern Switzerland for people affected by early-onset dementia and their families, I was introduced to a national Impulse Group of Alzheimer Switzerland in 2023. Engaging with other people affected by this condition helped me to better understand dementia in its diversity. From my experience so far, feeling connected to people and the planet, doing sport, and nurturing positive emotions and curiosity are effective ways to slow down memory loss.
While I like cycling, swimming, running, people and nature, I am also interested in processes of learning and unlearning on the individual and societal level.
I'm looking forward to be involved with this group and to see how we can develop support for people with dementia and their carers throughout Europe.
