My name is Paddy Crosbie and I live in Dalkey in Dublin, Ireland. I cared for my husband Derek who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease when he was 58. Sadly, Derek passed away in November 2021. I have been involved with the Dementia Carers Campaign Network (which is supported by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland) since it was founded in 2013. Due to caring responsibilities I had to take a back seat for a few years, but when Derek moved into full time care, I was able to become more involved in the network.
We have been involved in policy consultations, political advocacy, raising awareness of the issues affecting carers of those living with dementia, working towards eliminating the cultural stigma around dementia, and using the arts as an innovative way of communicating to a wider audience outside the dementia community.
Prior to retiring early to care for Derek, I worked in local government and have been involved in European projects around work life balance and worker exchange programs.
I look forward to working with the EDCWG and sharing the experience and learning of the Dementia Carers Campaign Network.

Paddy was nominated by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
