About
"My name is Olivera I’m 52 years old and I live In Skopje. I am married, have one teenage daughter and a dog. I graduated at the American University College in Skopje as Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. I have 25 years working experience. At the moment, I am working in a private company as project manager for ISO standards and work as a public procurement specialist in tender procedures.
I care for my mother who was diagnosed late onset Alzheimer’s disease 5 years ago, when she was 69 years old. Together with my father they live in their family house in Skopje. My father, brother and me, all three of us, are her main caregivers. It was very hard to accept the new person she was going to be, but we are trying to learn how to live with that. This disease has turned her from a cheerful and happy person to a person who cannot take care of herself without help of her family.
I am motivated by the desire to improve and continue the way of life that we all struggle with, meeting all kinds of challenges and situations that her illness brings. Every day spent together is a new experience and a new story for me. I fight for a minute, an hour, a day more spent with her for memories that will be remembered forever.
Thanks to the Institute for Alzheimer’s Disease and Neuroscience (IAN) from Skopje I am part of this European Dementia Carers Working Group."
