The REMOTE-AD Project held a consortium meeting in Magdeburg, Germany

10/03/2025

On 10 and 11 March, the REMOTE-AD project consortium, including Alzheimer Europe (AE), convened its first in-person meeting in Magdeburg, Germany, to share background information, introduce partners and plan the development of a reference framework and standards for the future use of remote digital assessments in early AD. The meeting included academic partners from Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, the United States of America, France, Sweden and the Netherlands. During the meeting, four subgroups led presentations and discussions. Each of them covered one of four important work streams constituting the project. Work streams included 1) the determination of the unmet needs in AD clinical practice that can be addressed with remote digital assessments; 2) delivery of a framework for identification and external appraisal of the most appropriate measures and measurement technologies for each identified use case; 3) evaluation of the social and ethical considerations relating to the deployment of remote digital assessments in each use case; 4) implementation into health care for the respective use cases.

Each subgroup had prepared a series of presentations relating to their topic and area of expertise. During this meeting, Dr Sebastien Libert, Public Involvement Officer at AE, delivered a presentation on the importance of public involvement in defining social and ethical issues in the development, current and future use of remote digital assessment technologies for Alzheimer’s disease/dementia as part of subgroup three. This contribution will support the REMOTE-AD project’s future work by ensuring that the needs, aspirations and preferences of patients and people at risk of dementia are considered in the development of the remote digital assessment technologies for Alzheimer’s disease.
