To mark the conclusion of the HOMEDEM project, LUCA School of Arts recently hosted a successful two-day event dedicated to design, dementia, and care. The event brought together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, people living with dementia and their caregivers, and the HOMEDEM network for inspiring keynote lectures, networking opportunities, and hands-on workshops. Attendees engaged in interactive sessions with experts in the field, including Dr Claire Craig, Dr Clarissa Giebel, Dr Sandra Suijkerbuijk, and Prof. Dr Debby Gerritsen. Over the course of the two days, the programme featured a variety of interactive sessions, including hands-on workshops with people living with dementia, collaborative sessions with healthcare professionals and stakeholders, dedicated coaching sessions for early-career researchers, and dialogues with policymakers and key policy influencers. Over the past three years, the project's eight doctoral candidates (Marine Markaryan, Ajda Flisar, Rising Lai, Sunny Tan, Andrea Nakakawa, Natsumi Wada, Alicia Valencia and Vamsi Boyanagari) have worked closely with people living with dementia (both inside and outside care facilities) and their informal caregivers. By collaborating with the European Working Group of People with Dementia, the European Dementia Carers Working Group, and various care facilities, design agencies, and local municipalities across Europe, they developed meaningful prototypes, interventions, toolkits, and guidelines.
