Marguerite Keating, member of the European Working Group of People with Dementia, is proud to be one of two people with dementia fronting Ireland's "Tea Day" this year

Hello and Happy New Year to you all. It is a typically quiet and extremely cold month here in Ireland, with not a lot happening. However, January’s known for New Year's resolutions and putting plans in place for the coming year. "Tea Day" is The Alzheimer Society of Ireland's largest fundraising event, where groups and organisations come together and plan their own Tea Day. The whole of Ireland drinks tea! Tea Day will take place on 4 May 2023. All proceeds are sent to The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, to fund much-needed services across the country. A television personality hosts the opening and helps with publicity through adverts, posters, TV ads and interviews, etc. This year, that person is my fellow member of the Irish Dementia Working Group, Bryan Murray. Bryan is a well-known and widely respected actor here in Ireland. Also, a person with dementia comes on board each year to tell their story, which is not only breaking the stigma around dementia but giving hope and courage to newly-diagnosed people and their families. This year, I am that person. I am looking forward to the event and I am very pleased that, this year, two people living with dementia are the faces of Tea Day 2023. I am excited for the year ahead and all it will entail, along with my involvement with the Irish Dementia Working Group and The European Working Group of People with Dementia. It should be an interesting and busy year with much progress in many areas of dementia.
