The EU-FINGERS consortium holds an online general assembly meeting

18/11/2021

On 18 November, the JPND-funded project EU-FINGERS held its general assembly meeting online, chaired by Professor Miia Kivipelto. The event brought together EU-FINGERS delegates to report on the progress of the project, to exchange ideas and discuss upcoming activities. EU-FINGERS is looking at the topics of brain health as people age and the reduction of risk factors related to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The project builds on the work of existing, pioneering European intervention studies, and proposes a novel multimodal precision prevention toolbox to address the complex and heterogeneous nature of Alzheimer´s disease and dementia.

EU-FINGERS is also growing, as three new institutions have been welcomed in the consortium as external collaborators. There are Combinostics, University of Luxemburg PDP program (program for dementia prevention) and Fundación CITA-Alzheimer Fundazioa, San Sebastian (Spain). Alzheimer Europe (AE) is involved in the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) activities of the project and in this context, has set up an Advisory Board to provide relevant input to the researchers from the perspective of people with Alzheimer’s disease across the disease continuum. AE is also co-leading the communication activities of the project. AE Project Officers Ana Diaz and Cindy Birck took part in the meeting and presented the work done by the organization. Alzheimer Europe’s participation is supported by the Luxembourg national research Fund (FNR).

EURO-FINGERS is an EU Joint Programme - Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) project. The project is supported through the following funding organisations under the aegis of JPND - www.jpnd.eu: Finland, Academy of Finland; Germany, Federal Ministry of Education and Research; Spain, National Institute of Health Carlos III; Luxemburg, National Research Fund; Hungary, National Research, Development and Innovation Office; The Netherlands, Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development; Sweden, Swedish Research Council.
