The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) has launched its Christmas individual giving appeal to raise vital funds and awareness for dementia services and supports across Ireland. At the heart of this year’s campaign are Tony and Mary McIntyre, a devoted couple whose story reflects the reality for many families living with dementia. Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease nine years ago, and Tony became her full-time carer. Like many family carers, Tony faced enormous stress and worry, which eventually led to a three-day hospital stay.
That experience was a turning point. Tony reached out for help and engaged with The ASI’s services, including its Family Carer Training Programme. “Without the help of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, I would be in hospital and someone else would have to look after Mary. I’m 100% certain of that”, he said. Tony and Mary are also passionate advocates who have done so much to raise awareness and vital funds for dementia. Their dedication helps ensure that more families can access the help they need. Read more about Tony and Mary’s story here: https://alzheimer.ie/
