Alzheimer Latvia (LAA) is involved in the Jūrmala Senior School project “The Motto of Jūrmala Seniors – We Want to Know Everything”, helping older adults better understand dementia, brain health, and ways to reduce the risk of dementia in everyday life. The project includes a series of 12 sessions combining health and dementia education with discussions and practical group work. Participants analyse everyday situations, discuss possible solutions, and jointly develop recommendations that they can apply in their daily lives.
For LAA, creating an open dialogue about dementia is particularly important. The sessions aim to challenge myths and prejudice and improve understanding of how to support people living with dementia and their relatives. Group work gives participants the opportunity not only to gain knowledge, but also to share experiences, ask questions, and explore practical solutions together.
This approach strengthens health literacy and helps build a society where dementia is discussed with understanding and without prejudice.
The project, implemented by the Jūrmala Pensioners’ Association, promotes older adults’ quality of life, social participation, and lifelong learning. It is co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus and the state budget under the programme “Support for the Implementation of Senior School Activities”.
