Bringing the acaDEMia Project into the Heart of the Community by Frodizo

To mark World Alzheimer’s Day 2026, Frodizo organised “An Evening for Those Who Care with Their Heart” in Patra, bringing together family caregivers, healthcare professionals, volunteers and community representatives for an evening of connection and support.

The event featured the European acaDEMia project, which promotes the rights, self-advocacy and democratic participation of people with dementia and neuropsychiatric disorders. Discussions focused on dignity, autonomy, equality and inclusion, highlighting the important role of caregivers in protecting the rights and choices of people living with dementia. Particular attention was given to the barriers that can prevent people with dementia from exercising their rights, participating in community life, and being meaningfully involved in decisions that affect them.

Interactive activities encouraged caregivers to share experiences, express emotions and recognise their own need for support. The initiative of Frodizo linked European human rights goals with everyday experiences, promoting empowerment, mutual understanding and a more inclusive society.

E.E.N.A.L.’s Dementia Awareness Campaign in September by Alzheimer Larissa

On 3 September, E.E.N.A.L. launched its awareness campaign under the slogan “Memory Needs Care: Let’s Build a Shield Together.” Throughout the month, information sessions and cognitive and emotional assessments took place in Omorfochori, Rapsani, Zoodochos Pigi and Nees Karyes, promoting dementia prevention, treatment and caregiver support. The campaign also reached the public through interviews given by E.E.N.A.L. President Eleni Nifli on local radio, Thessalia TV and ERT3.

On 20 September, caregivers attended a stress-relief workshop at the E.E.N.A.L. Centre. On World Alzheimer’s Day, 21 September, the 8th annual “Mnemosyne” Walk brought hundreds of participants through the historic centre of Larissa, accompanied by the Philharmonic Band, in a powerful show of solidarity with people living with dementia and their families. At the conclusion of the event, the President of E.E.N.A.L. hosted a dinner featuring live music and dancing for the guests and supporters who had participated in this well-established annual event. The campaign concluded on 30 September with an educational talk and distribution of information materials in the “Hippocrates” neighbourhood.

“Continuing Our Nationwide Dementia Awareness Campaign Across Greece” by Apostoli

Since 2015, Apostoli’s nationwide campaign, in collaboration with MEGA, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of personal hygiene products, has promoted dementia awareness and cognitive health across Greece through educational presentations and free memory screening.

In September 2026, the campaign visited Erithres, Oinoi, Mandra and Vilia. In October, activities continued in Loutraki, Agioi Theodoroi, the Care Centres of Chalandri and the Church of Zoodochos Pigi in central Athens.

By providing reliable information, encouraging early recognition of cognitive difficulties and reducing stigma, the campaign supports individuals and families affected by dementia and promotes more informed, compassionate communities.
