The results of the 2021 EU Joint Programme for Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) call for "Linking pre-diagnosis disturbances of physiological systems to neurodegenerative diseases" were recently announced. In total, fourteen projects were recommended for funding by an independent peer-review panel, which includes expert researchers and contributions from the JPND Advisory Board on patient and public involvement.
Among the projects securing a funding recommendation from the JPND panel is ADIS, which stands for "Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease by Immune Profiling of Cytotoxic Lymphocytes and Recording of Sleep Disturbances". Alzheimer Europe is a partner in this project, which will be led by Prof. Holger Frohlich of the Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI), in Germany. The other ADIS partners are based in Spain, Hungary and Israel, bringing together clinical and technical expertise on Alzheimer's disease, sleep disturbances, immune profiling and AI-based models for dementia risk prediction. Final approvals by national funding agencies is still ongoing, but the project is anticipated to start in summer 2022.
