Prof Wiesje van der Flier (1975) is Chief Executive Officer at Alzheimer Nederland since 2025. In addition, she holds an endowed chair at the department of Epidemiology & Data Science of Amsterdam UMC. She studied neuropsychology at the University of Utrecht and is clinical epidemiologist. Until 2025, van der Flier was scientific director of Alzheimer Center Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC, where she led the Amsterdam Dementia Cohort, supervised >50 theses, and co-authored >800 publications. In 2015 she has co-authored a book for the laymen’s audience, het Alzheimermysterie, which was published by the Arbeiderspers. In 2025, van der Flier transitioned to Alzheimer Nederland, with the ambition to bring research results to society. As such, she now focuses on promoting, structuring and catalyzing dementia research in the Netherlands.
