Research Projects

This database contains information on EU funded dementia research projects, undertaken since 2007. It is the product of a mapping exercise of European funding programmes for dementia research conducted by Alzheimer Europe in 2020. This database is not an exhaustive resource of information. It contains information about dementia research projects that are funded by European programmes including FP7, H2020, IMI, JPND, AAL and the third EU Health programme. The mapping exercise and database were expanded in 2025, to include projects funded under Horizon Europe (including IHI). For these projects, the database reports the maximum contribution from the European Commission rather than the total project budget, so funding figures may not be directly comparable across all entries.

Generalised EMF Research using Novel Methods – an integrated approach: from research to risk assessment and support to risk management

GERONIMO

The EU population is increasingly exposed to new physical and chemical agents in the environment, some of which may be detrimental to public health. Of these, electromagnetic fields (EMF) are one of the most ubiquitous, with new EMF technologies and novel applications being actively developed and commercialised. To address pertinent questions on...

How to best meet the needs of people with dementia with severe behavioural disturbances. Toward a respectful and cost-effective model

RECAGE

The RECAGE project will tackle one of the most challenging problem arising during the clinical course of dementia: the so-called Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). The current state-of-the-art of the treatment of these symptoms is still unsatisfactory and there are many unmet needs in this area. The major objective of the...

IMplementation of quality indicators in PAlliative Care sTudy

IMPACT

New knowledge is not necessarily readily applied in medicine, even when there is evidence of its effectiveness. As a result of the gap between knowing and doing, policy makers, professional care providers, patients and their families have benefited too little from new developments. Implementation research has developed models for stepwise...

Investigation of affective input during object encoding in the perirhinal cortex

EmotionObjectCoding

In our everyday life, we ascribe certain emotional value to some objects. More specifically, we ascribe a valence to some objects, which is the degree to which something can be pleasurable or averse, leading to an emotional response when we interact or remember them. In the act of learning and remembering an object, the brain executes a complex set...

Mathematical and computational foundations for modeling cerebral fluid flow.

Waterscales

Your brain has its own waterscape: whether you are reading or sleeping, fluid flows through the brain tissue and clears waste in the process. These physiological processes are crucial for the well-being of the brain. In spite of their importance we understand them but little. Mathematics and numerics could play a crucial role in gaining new insight...
