On 24 January, the World Health Organization (WHO) Civil Society Commission published a report evaluating the involvement of civil society in drafting some of the resolutions and decisions adopted during the meeting of the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) in May 2024. The study examines three specific examples of civil society engagement in the development process: A WHA Resolution on Social Participation, the WHO Fourteenth General Programme of Work and a WHA Resolution on Climate Change and Health. These resolutions were initiated by Member States, the WHO, and Member States, respectively. For each of case study, key information is provided, for example on the interaction between between the WHO Secretariat or Member States and civil society organisations, challenges experienced during the drafting process and recommendations to inform future collaboration.
