Spominčica - Alzheimer Slovenija organised the 12th International Conference on Dementia - ASK 2023, which took place at the Habakuk Hotel in Maribor, on 21-22 April 2023. The conference focused on the integrated management of dementia in local settings. The conference was officially opened by the President of Spominčica, Štefanija L. Zlobec, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia, Peter Svetina, the Minister of Solidarity-Based Future, Slovenia, Simon Maljevac, the Mayor of the Municipality of Maribor, Aleksander Saša Arsenovič, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, Azra Herceg and the Head of the World Health Organization Office in Slovenia, Dr Aiga Rurane.
The opening was followed by a varied programme of lectures and panel discussions by foreign and Slovenian experts. Among the foreign experts, they hosted Paola Barbarino, CEO of Alzheimer's Disease International, Dr Dianne Gove, Director for Projects at Alzheimer Europe, Dr sc. Marija Kusan Jukić from the Public Health Institute "Dr. A. Štampar", Dr Lucia Bergamini from Geriatrics and Cognitive Disorders, Local Health Service Modena, Italy and Osman Kučuk from Demencia BIH Sarajevo, as well as Tomaž Gržinič, President of the working group of people with dementia in Slovenia. The conference was also attended by a number of Slovenian experts in the field of dementia, including psychiatrists, neurologists, family medicine, social workers, among others, talked about addressing dementia comprehensively in local settings. The 12th International Conference on Dementia - ASK 2023 was an invaluable event for all those who work with dementia and care for people affected by dementia and great support for the new Dementia plan 2030.
