Spominčica - Alzheimer Slovenia continues expanding the network of dementia-friendly points and building inclusive communities throughout Slovenia

In 2025, the network of dementia-friendly points (Demenci prijazne točke) in Slovenia continues to grow at an impressive pace, bringing support to individuals living with dementia and their families. Driven by the increasing needs of an ageing population, local communities across the country are stepping up their efforts to create inclusive environments where everyone feels “seen, supported, and understood.” Spominčica - Alzheimer Slovenia is at the heart of these activities, to raise awareness and improve the quality of life for people with dementia. Spominčica has been strengthening connections within municipalities in collaboration with mayors of many cities, of what are now known as dementia-friendly local communities and cities. These communities unite local actors, such as healthcare institutions, cultural centres, pharmacies, libraries, and senior associations, to provide information, raise public awareness, and offer practical assistance to those affected by dementia. In the first four months of 2025, Spominčica successfully opened 11 new dementia-friendly points.

These new locations, established in libraries, pharmacies, hospitals, cultural centres, and retirement associations, serve as safe spaces where trained staff can offer guidance and support to individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Each point is a small but powerful step toward fostering dignity, understanding and social inclusion. This year’s expansion reflects a broader shift in how Slovenian communities approach dementia, not as a private burden, but as a collective responsibility. By embedding dementia awareness into everyday places and services, Slovenia is creating a national safety net woven from compassion, education, and local collaboration. As more municipalities join this initiative, the message is clear: to ensure that every person facing dementia, no matter where they live, can find empathy, assistance, and community close to home.
