The 16th Romanian National Alzheimer Conference (CNAlz 2026) took place in Bucharest from 24 to 27 February 2026, at the World Trade Center. The conference was organised by the Romanian Alzheimer Society and held in a hybrid format, with online sessions throughout the conference. The theme of this year's edition was Research, Innovation and Integrated Care: from Biomarkers to Prevention and Personalised Therapies in Alzheimer's Disease.
Prof. Dr. Cătălina Tudose, President of the Romanian Alzheimer Society (Societatea Română Alzheimer) co-organised CNAlz 2026 and chaired multiple sessions throughout the four days, also delivering a presentation on developments in Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. The scientific programme included contributions from several international speakers from Alzheimer Europe member associations. Professor Rene Thyrian, a member of the Alzheimer Europe Board for the German Alzheimer’s Association (Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft) spoke about the implications of disease modifying therapies for healthcare systems, addressing the organisational and policy changes that accompany their introduction. Emeritus Professor Magda Tsolaki from Thessaloniki, Greece, founder of the Greek Alzheimer association (Panhellenic Federation of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders) presented an overview of dementia research programmes in Greece and the outcomes achieved under the country's national strategic plan. On the final day, Angela Bradshaw, Director for Research, Alzheimer Europe, presented on the process from European marketing authorisation to access for people with early Alzheimer's disease, examining the steps between regulatory approval and the availability of treatments to patients in practice.
