Researchers publish report to help develop evidence base for dementia training in acute NHS hospitals

19/07/2021

On 19 July, a team of researchers published a new resource based on the findings of a survey of dementia training in 87 acute NHS hospitals in England.

The report presents findings from the first phase of the DEMTRAIN research study. Each of the recipient hospitals took part in their national online survey to map the variation in staff dementia training provided to acute NHS hospital staff in England. The report aims to inform hospital dementia leads, trust and hospital managers/ leaders, staff and people living with dementia, carers and families, and dementia organisations and community groups that advocate on their behalf. The information can inform their hospital’s dementia training plans and for educating their workforce to deliver high quality care and support for people living with dementia.

It furthermore provides reflections, recommendations and an infographic model summarising the facilitators of and barriers to implementing hospital dementia training. All DEMTRAIN research (from other phases of the study) analysed to the release date has informed the model. This has also been accompanied by an interactive web-based resource, which is available via: https://www.bradford.ac.uk/dementia/research/current-projects/demtrain/training/
