Maastricht University opened applications for a full-time PhD on predicting adherence to digital health-promoting interventions using AI and machine learning. The post sits in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, with primary location in Maastricht and short research visits possible to FH Joanneum in Graz Deadline: 20 October 2025. The project focuses on modelling intervention use and behaviour from unobtrusive data sources such as smartphone apps, websites and wearables. Existing datasets include a two-year app- and Fitbit-supported lifestyle intervention aimed at lowering dementia risk, and a web-based programme on sexually transmitted disease prevention and condom use.
The goal is to build predictive models that support tailoring and delivery of digital health interventions. Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a relevant Master’s in health or data science. Affinity with complex statistics, machine learning or computational modelling is expected, as is excellent English. Programming experience in Python, R or SQL, and familiarity with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn, are considered assets. The position is 38 hours per week. The gross monthly salary is EUR 3,059–3,881, plus 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. The initial contract is 12 months at 1.0 FTE, with a three-year extension upon positive evaluation.
