Last month, the Panhellenic Federation of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders organised the 14th Panhellenic Conference of Alzheimer's Disease and the 6th Mediterranean Conference of Neurodegenerative Diseases

From 13 to 16 February, the Panhellenic Federation of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, in collaboration with the Panhellenic Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases and Alzheimer Hellas, organised with success the 14th Panhellenic Conference of Alzheimer's Disease and the 6th Mediterranean Conference of Neurodegenerative Diseases in Thessaloniki. The four-day event was full of information on the latest scientific data, recent global studies and the latest developments concerning Alzheimer's disease and neurodegenerative diseases, giving the opportunity to all scientists and interested parties across the world to attend in person and online. 850 people attended more than 320 presentations, 26 lectures, 14 focused interactive seminars, 1 satellite speech, for a total of 110 hours of conference. At the opening ceremony, Walter Rocca, Professor of Neurology-Epidemiology of the Mayo Clinic-Rochester, gave his captivating speech on the topic: “Sex, gender, and the brain: Risk and protective factors for dementia”.

Magda Tsolaki, President of the Panhellenic Alzheimer's Disease Federation, Coordinator of the neurodegenerative diseases laboratory, neurologist-psychiatrist, theologian, and emeritus professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, stated that this double conference, which takes place every two years in Thessaloniki and is a leading scientific event in Greece, attracted 327 renowned Greeks and 27 foreign scientists.. These scientists who have dedicated their lives to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, she noted, were able to present to people from across the world, about important issues such as the safe use of anti-amyloid drugs, neuropsychological assessment, the role of caregivers in terms of quality of life for the family, and new care units for patients with end-stage dementia. They also shared messages from European programmes and spoke about supporting technologies of dementia care. Participants and speakers positively evaluated the conference, while the main comment was the need to inform both doctors and other health professionals, as well as interested families and patients, about the latest developments, technologies and research data on dementia.
