Ireland’s “DRATgons’ Den”: Empowering early career dementia researchers took place

21/09/2025

In Ireland, October is national PPI month. This annual festival amplifies the growing influence of Public & Patient Involvement (PPI) across the country, generating enthusiasm and creativity in how research is conducted and experienced. In a unique one-off event, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland's dedicated PPI panel and the Dementia Research Advisory Team (DRAT) hosted a fun and interactive knowledge ex-change platform for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) “DRATgons' Den”. Inspired by the TV show Dragon’s Den, this dynamic showcase is an opportunity for ECRs to demonstrate their research and communication skills to an audience of peers & experts, competing for a funding prize of EUR 3,000.

Open to PhD and Master’s students in the dementia space, this event offers:

• A masterclass in PPI and science communication

• An opportunity to understand what funders and stakeholders value are

• A chance to be inspired by the variety of projects being framed and challenged by expert PPI contributors.
