How can communities best support people living with dementia and carers? Share your experience of dementia support and care

31/10/2026

An international community of practice supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) is inviting people globally to share their experiences of community-based dementia support and care by completing a survey. The survey is open until 1 December 2026.
The survey is being conducted as part of the activities of the Models of Support and Care in Dementia Working Group, a community of practice initiated and supported by WHO to contribute to the implementation of the WHO Blueprint for Dementia Research.
Community-based support and care play an important role in the lives of people living with dementia and those who support them. However, approaches differ across communities and countries, and there is much to learn from these diverse experiences.
The survey aims to gather information about community-based models being used globally to support people living with dementia and their carers including information about what works well, what challenges remain, and where improvements are needed. By bringing together experiences from different settings, through this work, we it seeks to identify useful approaches, gaps and needs, while supporting opportunities for communities to learn from one another.

Who can participate?

The survey welcomes a broad range of perspectives, including people living with dementia, family members and carers, health and social care professionals, people providing dementia support, researchers, policymakers and anyone interested in dementia care.
Participation is voluntary, responses are confidential, and the survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. It is available in 16 languages, making it accessible to a wide international audience.
The Working Group encourages individuals and organisations to participate and share the survey invitation through their networks, helping to ensure that a diversity of experiences and perspectives is represented. This is an important first step in helping us identify effective, affordable and cost-effective models of care that are appropriate for various contexts.
The survey closes on 1 December 2026.
