On 23 May, a special episode of German-language podcast "Damit Die Guten Gewinnen" ("So that the good guys win") called "How do we change the way we deal with dementia?" was published on YouTube and Spotify. In an interview with podcast host Thomas Mühlnickel, Heike von Lützau-Hohlbein, founder and former longstanding Chairperson of the German Alzheimer Association (Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft, DAlzG), former Chairperson of Alzheimer Europe and current Chairperson of the Alzheimer Europe Foundation, spoke about how dementia should be handled with dignity for those living with the condition, their relatives and society as a whole, providing deep insights into her work and personal experiences. She argues in favour of a dementia-friendly society - with more knowledge, more empathy and more courage to remove the taboo. She talks about humour as a survival strategy, about systemic weaknesses in care and politics - and about her vision of a society in which growing old does not mean retreat, but participation until the end.
