The Fondation Médéric Alzheimer has published a new edition of its guide ‘Psychosocial interventions and dementia: Understanding, knowing, implementing’ on its website. In this new version, the chapters have been updated by the initial authors and summary tables have been added. This new version also completes certain chapters by highlighting specific interventions or devices (e.g. theatre, tango-therapy and the PARO seal cub robot). One section is dedicated to digital devices, which are increasingly being used in psychosocial interventions (such as virtual reality, augmented reality and animal-like robots). The guide is targeted at professionals working directly or indirectly with people with dementia. It aims to improve their knowledge and understanding of psychosocial interventions designed to maintain and/or improve cognitive, psychological, social and physical functioning and, more globally, quality of life of people with dementia. The relationship and interaction between the person providing the intervention and people living with dementia are central to the support they provide. The interventions described in the guide were developed to be either therapeutic or recreational. You can download the guide free of charge at the following address:
