The EU4Health Civil Society Alliance (CSA) has issued call aimed at national governments, the European Commission and the European Parliament, ahead of the trilogue negotiation process on the EU4Health programme. The statement reiterates the need for a strong EU4Health programme to deliver a European Health Union, highlighting the potential for the programme to improve public health, expand access to healthcare and reduce health inequalities. It further notes the importance of civil-society involvement in the design and governance of the programme.
The CSA therefore calls for a well-resourced, well-designed and well-governed programme, which reflects the 10 guiding principles for an EU Health programme published by the group earlier in 2020. Included within these principles is the need for a focus on health promotion and prevention (for both physical and mental health), attention for chronic, communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as strengthening of EU health agencies, including the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Medicines Agency.
