Cross Border Grants support international collaboration in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research

Alzheimer Forschung Initiative e. V. (AFI) will open its 2026 Cross Border Grants call on 2 January 2026 to support international collaboration between researchers in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research. Through this scheme, research teams can apply for up to EUR 200,000 for projects lasting up to two years. Since 2024, the programme supports worldwide collaborative projects. A researcher based in Germany, the Netherlands or France can now apply together with a co-investigator based in another country, with the co-investigator funded through the BrightFocus Foundation. Depending on the applicants’ country, proposals are submitted via Alzheimer Forschung Initiative, Fondation Vaincre Alzheimer or Alzheimer Nederland. 

Key dates for the 2026 Cross Border Grants call are: 

• Call launch: 2 January 2026 

• Letter of Intent deadline: 30 January 2026, 13:00 CET 

• Review by the European Scientific Advisory Board: February to April 2026 

• Notification to applicants invited to submit a full proposal: May 2026 

• Full proposal deadline: 17 June 2026, 13:00 CEST* 

• Review of full proposals by the European Scientific Advisory Board and external reviewers: June to October 2026 

• Notification of funding decisions: November 2026 

• Project start date: 1 January 2027.
