The First Krems Dementia Conference was held in Krems, Austria on 5-7 November 2019 on the topic of the “Timely Detection of Dementia”. The conference was organised by the Danube University Krems Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Preventive Medicine.
In a determined effort to show good practice in cross-border cooperation, Udruženje AiR, the Alzheimer's association in Bosnia and Herzegovina presented at this conference, informing delegates of the combined efforts of Western Balkan countries to develop national dementia plans in their respective countries.
Following Udruženje AiR’s presentation, there was a panel discussion, in which the necessity of strong collaboration between the various countries in the Danube Region, was agreed. There is a need for the common sharing of knowledge and experiences in order to open up the same opportunities for people with dementia in this entire region. A regional meeting in Sarajevo in April 2018, under the patronage of the World Health Organization (WHO), Alzheimer’s Disease International and Alzheimer Europe, resulting in the “Sarajevo Statement on Dementia in Western Balkan Countries”, shows what an encouraging outcome this type of collaboration can have.
