On 24 June, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) launched its Pre-Budget Submission 2027: A Clear Path to Better Community Supports, Building a Dementia-Inclusive Ireland at Buswells Hotel in Dublin. The ASI's submission presents the Government with investment options for dementia supports and services that enhance availability and ensure access to appropriate supports at every stage of the dementia journey. The ASI strives to ensure that people with dementia and their family carers can live as well as possible, at home and in their communities, for as long as possible. The ASI is calling on the Government to invest over EUR 8 million in targeted supports for people living with dementia and their family carers.
The submission highlights key priorities and essential areas for action, including increased investment in dementia-specific home care supports, new dementia-specific day care centres, an expanded Dementia Adviser Service, funding for activity clubs for people living with young-onset and early-stage dementia, and much more. The Pre-Budget Submission campaign has been rolled out throughout the summer, and there has been ongoing engagement with Minister of State for Older People, Kieran O'Donnell, to ensure that dementia remains a priority in discussions around ageing, community care and quality of life. The campaign also generated significant media attention, securing coverage in the Irish Independent newspaper and a range of regional media outlets across the country. Together, these activities have helped keep dementia on the political agenda ahead of Budget 2027.
