The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and soap and real-life couple Bryan Murray and Una Crawford O’Brien invite Ireland to join "Tea Day" on 4 May

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) launched its annual nationwide Alzheimer’s Tea Day, with TV and real-life couple Bryan Murray and Una Crawford O’Brien as the campaign’s new ambassadors. Bryan Murray and Una Crawford, who star in RTÉ One soap Fair City, are calling on Ireland to host a "Tea Day" and have the most powerful cup of tea of the year on 4 May, to raise funds for vital dementia supports. The couple ask that everyone get involved with local Tea Day events in their homes, gardens, workplaces, schools, local community centres or somewhere special.

Bryan Murray was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease three years ago and is a member of The Irish Dementia Working Group. He said: “Did you know at least 30 people (in Ireland) develop dementia every day? It’s a frightening statistic, and one I wasn’t aware of until I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Thousands of families across Ireland are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia - it cannot be understated how much they rely on supports like day care centres, home care, Dementia Advisers and training for family carers; supports Tea Day helps to provide.”

ASI Head of Fundraising Mairéad Dillon said: “The ASI really depends on the funds that the event generates each year to keep our support services going. We ask everyone to get involved, whether by hosting their own Tea Day or donating to The ASI at alzheimer.ie

Working with Bryan and Una on this campaign will undoubtedly shine further light on the condition and help break down the prevailing stigma surrounding dementia.” Sign up for #TeaDay2023 at teaday.ie
