Throughout the month of September, Alzheimer Iceland held an awareness raising event in connection with World Alzheimer's Day (21 September). Advertisements were shared on social media, a purple bus drove through the streets of the capital, Reykjavík, and local communities painted benches purple, along sidewalks. The purpose of the campaign was to raise public awareness of dementia and its consequences. Alzheimer Iceland was pleased that its campaign received good media attention.
