Alzheimer Hellas organises public awareness and information activities in April and May

24/05/2025

On 28 April, Alzheimer Hellas and psychologists of the caregivers team of “Agios Ioannis” Day Care Center participated in the scientific event of “Epioni” on caregivers and depression, highlighting the importance of self-care and ways to strengthen the resilience of caregivers. The discussion on depression that caregivers of people with dementia often face showed the need to seek help and support from mental health specialists at an early stage. From 10 to 11 May, the Municipality of Thessaloniki held their first Festival of people with disabilities "A city for all" and on 24 May, Psychosocial Rehabilitation Units in Northern Greece organised the 5th Mental Health Festival, with the aim of informing and raising awareness among citizens on mental health and social issues. Health professionals of Alzheimer Hellas participated in both events presenting our associations’ work and services, informing the public about issues related to dementia, distributing information material and fighting social stigma. The participation of Alzheimer’s Associations in a festival dedicated to disability and mental health represents an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and inform the public on prevention, diagnosis and available treatments and support services. Also, it’s a great way to collaborate with other organisations, public institutions, and professionals in the field, to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore potential future partnerships, amplifying the voices and visibility of people with dementia and their caregivers.
