ENSURED

ENSURED (Empowering Needs-based Social Health and inclUsive care for RarEr Dementias in moderate to advanced stages) aims to improve the unmet social needs of people living with rarer dementias in moderate to advanced stages.

The JPND-funded project addresses this gap by focusing on social health, ensuring that people with dementia can remain engaged, included and supported in their communities. The project pays particular attention to groups that are often underrepresented in research, including people with rarer dementias (such as frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia and vascular dementia), people in later stages of dementia, as well as those from migrant and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The three-year project brings together partners from across Europe, including Alzheimer Ireland, Alzheimer Nederland, Alzheimer NRW (Germany), University of Queensland (Australia), Social IT (Italy), INTERDEM Academy (Netherlands), ISTAART (U.S.) and Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). Additionally, ENSURED will work closely with people living with dementia and their carers to better understand their experiences, identify key challenges and develop practical tools and support approaches tailored to their needs.

Alzheimer Europe leads the project’s Public Involvement work, ensuring that people with rarer dementias and their carers are actively involved throughout the research. This includes developing a framework for respectful and inclusive engagement, helping to ensure that the project remains person-centred and grounded in real-life experiences.
