Alzheimer’s Care Armenia marks World Alzheimer’s Day 2026 with series of national activities

Alzheimer’s Care Armenia (ACA) marked World Alzheimer’s Day 2026 through a series of national activities focused on raising dementia awareness, expanding community-based services, strengthening professional capacity, and advancing dementia care in Armenia.
A key milestone was the launch of four new Memory & Support Cafés, expanding ACA’s community-based network to 11 Memory & Support Cafés across Armenia. The new cafés in Dilijan (pictured), Kapan/Syunik, Yeghegnadzor/Vayots Dzor, and Ashtarak/Aragatsotn provide older adults with opportunities for social connection, cognitive and psychosocial activities, and meaningful engagement, while creating an important support network for families and caregivers.
ACA also co-hosted the national conference “Developing Dementia Care in Armenia” in collaboration with the National Institute of Health (NIH). The conference brought together health professionals and national stakeholders to address the development of dementia services, professional education, research, and the continued implementation of Armenia’s national dementia strategy.
World Alzheimer’s Day activities also highlighted ACA’s growing investment in the dementia-care workforce. In September, ACA launched its Dementia & Mental Health Fellowship Program, developed in partnership with the Armenian American Medical Association (AAMS), providing specialised education, supervision, and practical community experience for professionals working with people affected by dementia. The Fellowship Program as well as the expansion of the four Memory & Support Cafés is supported by the generosity of the Armenian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA).
These activities demonstrate ACA’s continuing commitment to building a coordinated, community-based dementia and mental health care system in Armenia—connecting awareness, education, professional development, family support, and direct services.
ACA is deeply grateful to its partners, including the ministries, community leaders, professionals, volunteers, and supporters, whose collaboration is helping strengthen dementia care and support throughout Armenia.
