Description
The TV series named Istanbullu Gelin “Bride from Istanbul”, which started in March 2017 and ended with the final episode on May 31, 2019, had 3 seasons consisting of 87 episodes, the series is based on a novel by Gülten Budayıcıoğlu, which is based on a true story. The plot of the series is a typical drama about a very prominent and successful family in Bursa. The matriarch of the family Esma, has four sons and the story goes around especially the main character Esma (who is called as Esma Sultan due to her powerful and shrewd personality) and her sons and their wives/girlfriends and other family members and the management of their family business and lifestyle.
In the third season Esma is to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s so the Production Company consulted Turkish Alzheimer Association to ensure the integrity of the story and the character, and the Association formed an Advisory Board to make sure that the disease is correctly presented to the audience and the fact that “a person with Alzheimer’s is still capable of self-management and even management of a business or other activities for quite some time” is emphasized. Eventually the Production Company and the Association worked hand-in-hand and managed to get the main character to collect all her sons and announce them her condition openly and with dignity and also to run for the chairman of the Foundation she had been working for.
