World Health Assembly approves six-year extension to the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia

23/05/2025

On 23 May 2025, during the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva (Switzerland), a six-year extension to the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia was adopted. This followed a recommendation adopted by the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) in February of this year. This extension will see the Global Action Plan, which originally ran from 2017-2025, continue until 2031. The WHO recommendation noted that none of the targets within the Global Action Plan were on course to be met, whilst highlighting the continued relevance of the subject, particularly in the context of ageing demographics in many countries and regions.
