World Disability Summit calls for health equity

17/02/2022

As part of the World Disability Summit, held on 16 and 17 February 2022, a declaration was issued calling for governments, civil society, United Nations organisations, the private sector and other actors to commit to concrete action to address ongoing barriers in accessing health services for persons with disabilities. The declaration notes that the World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting countries to achieve disability-inclusive healthcare sectors, whilst also highlighting that a global report on the highest attainable standard of health for people with disabilities will be launched in December 2022, along with a Guide for Action.

Further, the declaration cites the implementation of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy through a three-year action plan as an example of good practice which should be further scaled-up. The full call was published in Nature and can be viewed at: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00405-y
