Malta Dementia Society organises several events throughout World Alzheimer's Month 2026

26/09/2026

Every September, World Alzheimer’s Month draws attention to dementia and the people it affects. In Malta, the Malta Dementia Society (MDS) marks this important month through events that combine awareness, fundraising and community spirit.
On 11 September, MDS held its Annual Fundraising Dinner at Xara Lodge in Rabat. Guests enjoyed an evening of food and music, alongside a fundraising lottery featuring 47 prizes generously donated by sponsors. The funds raised will help MDS continue providing support and services to people living with dementia and their families. The evening also included a special appearance by the famous Maltese singer Daniel Cauchi, who performed “Niftakarna”. The song has been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the Alzheimer Europe 2026 Anti-Stigma Award.

The highlight of the month was the Annual Memory Walk for Dementia on Saturday, 26 September. Participants gathered at 9.30am in front of Parliament Buildings in Valletta before walking to St George’s Square and returning to the starting point. MDS was also delighted to organise a special surprise appearance by the MusicToMind™ choir for this year’s Memory Walk. Everyone who took part contributed to greater dementia awareness while supporting the thousands of families affected by dementia in Malta. MDS also had an information stand in front of Parliament, where members of the team were available to raise awareness and engage with the public.
Beyond World Alzheimer’s Month, MDS continues to provide support throughout the year. Its services include the Reaching Hands support group for relatives and carers, the Malta Dementia Working Group, a support group for people with dementia in the early stages, MDS Dementia Cafés, MDS Communic-Aid, physiotherapy and organised outings, as well as creative programmes such as DancingToDementia™ and MusicToMind™ which use movement, music and art to promote connection, participation and meaningful reminiscence for people living with dementia.
