The Steering Group on Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases (SGPP) has met to discuss issues around Horizon Europe and the allocation of health spending in the European Social Funds Plus (ESF+). The SGPP was established in July 2018, replacing the disease-specific expert groups (including the group on dementia), with a goal of supporting EU countries in reaching the health targets of the Sustainable Development Goals. The European Commission consults the Steering Group on health priorities and strategic objectives, as well as on the health policy perspectives of other policies and funding mechanisms.
The SGPP formally met in Brussels, with representatives of Member States, the European Investment Bank and several European Commission services discussing public health policies and initiatives. The group has a key role in the strategic planning for the health strand of the ESF+ and the health actions of Horizon Europe. As such, the meeting also covered discussions on health within the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) including an update on the negotiations of the ESF+, as well as discussing the Horizon Europe Actions and strategic planning for the programme.
