European Parliament organises Disability Rights week

27/11/2023

The European Parliament has organised a Disability Rights week between 27 November and 4 December, in order to raise awareness and enhance the public debate around disabilities rights and to support people to exercise their rights. The week is organised to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2023 and will see several parliamentary committees voting, debating and holding events regarding disability policies. This includes the Petitions Committee hosting its annual workshop on the rights of persons of disabilities, with the Transport Committee due to discuss barriers in the fields of transport and tourism.

Additionally, the Employment and Social Affairs Committee will hold several events, including an exchange of views on the European Disability Card and European Parking Card. A joint hearing will also be held by the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee on “Harmful practices in the EU towards women and girls with disabilities”, whilst a meeting with members of national parliaments on the participation of people with disabilities in the electoral process is also planned. Full details of activities and debates taking place as part of the week can be found at:
