Davide Mangani takes on Swiss Man Extreme Triathlon to raise awareness and honour memory of his father and uncle who passed away with Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Disease

Next month, Italian scientist Davide Mangani will take on one of the toughest extreme triathlons in the world, to honour the memory of his father and uncle, both of whom passed away almost a decade ago, due to Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Disease (DIAD). DIAD is a genetically predictable form of young-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) where individuals inherit a mutation that almost guarantees they will develop AD, often at a younger age. Dr Mangani, who lives and works in Switzerland, will take part in the Swiss Man Extreme Triathlon on 21 June 2025, which involves a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride (with almost 4km of elevation gain), and a marathon run, i.e. 42km (with almost 2km of elevation gain). He is doing this to find meaning, challenge himself, overcome pain and loss, and to find the strength to honour his father and uncle every day, by "being best version of himself", he says, in a video introducing his journey: https://youtu.be/N_DJ1cwa1Nw?si=f63KsX-RjSQnppFy He is sharing his training journey on social media (Instagram and YouTube), using the hashtags #Swissman #Alzheimer #ImmunoMan Follow his journey on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr_immunoman/ We wish him every success in this impressive endeavour!
