Austria publishes Dementia Report 2025

23/05/2025

On 23 May, the Austrian Dementia Report 2025 was published, providing a detailed analysis of healthcare provision, social support, as well as examining the living conditions of people with dementia and informal caregivers. The report was developed by Gesunheidt Österreich on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection. The report consists of articles by experts from various backgrounds, including academia, science, professional practice and policy. The report covers a wide range of topics, including epidemiological trends, national and international approaches, prevention and health promotion, early detection and diagnosis, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.

Care models, inclusion in society, the situation of informal caregivers, technological support, and the legal and structural framework are also examined. The report further considers the specific needs of vulnerable and marginalised population groups. The identified areas include reflections on their potential further development, however, it is noted that doing so will require appropriate structural conditions to be met. Overall, the findings reaffirm the necessity of a nationally coordinated, cross-sectoral pubic health approach in order to effectively and sustainably address demographic challenges posed by dementia. The report is intended as a foundation for planning, implementation and research in the field of dementia care in Austria. The full report (in German) is available at:
