Alzheimer Europe launches series of MEP videos for World Alzheimer’s Month

01/09/2026

Alzheimer Europe’s exhibition in the European Parliament and the launch reception on 1 September marked the beginning of World Alzheimer’s Month, which takes place during the month of September and aims to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. As part of this awareness-raising month, Alzheimer Europe invited MEPs to record and share video messages about the need for dementia to be prioritised as a policy issue at an EU level. These videos were then shared on social media, both in the run-up to and during the exhibition. Alzheimer Europe is hugely grateful to all ten MEPs who contributed:

  • Vytenis Andriukaitis (S&D, Lithuania)

  • Nina Carberry (EPP, Ireland)

  • Maria Guzenina (S&D, Finland)

  • Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA, Luxembourg)

  • Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, Finland)

  • Manuela Ripa (Greens/EFA, Germany)

  • Tomislav Sokol (EPP, Croatia)

  • Hilde Vautmans (Renew, Belgium)

  • Kristian Vigenin (S&D, Bulgaria)

  • Maria Walsh (EPP, Ireland).

Across the ten videos shared, MEPs highlighted a number of different aspects of dementia, including those relating to prevention, gender, diagnosis and treatments – across all videos, the common message was the need for coordinated action at an EU level.

Alzheimer Europe shared these messages, as part of its activities around the exhibition, reception and World Alzheimer’s Month, building on the messages of the #DementiaNeedsEU campaign, which was launched during the 2024 European Parliament elections. As part of this, Alzheimer Europe highlighted the demands set out in the Helsinki Manifesto.
