On 24 June 2025, Alzheimer Europe hosted a session of its popular online Alzheimer’s Association Academy, with a focus on “MCI: terminology, support and services”. The Academy is a series of online capacity-building workshops bringing together representatives of national Alzheimer’s associations with members of the European Working Group of People with Dementia (EWGPWD) and European Dementia Carers Working Group (EDCWG), to learn about the latest advances in dementia care, policy, research and treatment from experts in these fields. The session on 24 June was the third Academy session of 2025 and was hosted by Angela Bradshaw, Director for Research, Alzheimer Europe. She welcomed 62 participants, including members from 18 countries across Europe, representatives from five pharmaceutical companies and members of the Alzheimer Europe staff to the session.
The first speaker was Veerle van Gils (Maastricht University), whose presentation was titled “Early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in the MCI stage”. Elena Garcia Arcelay (Roche Farma S.A) then spoke about the impact of informal caring for people with mild cognitive impairment in Spain. The third speaker was Gillian Councill (Alzheimer Scotland) who shared details of the Alzheimer Scotland Brain Health and Dementia Resource Centres. Kevin Rabiant (France Alzheimer), the fourth and final presenter at the event, spoke about France Alzheimer’s “Mutual Support Group for people at the start of their disease journey”.
Thank you to all speakers and participants at the Academy session and a huge thank you, also, to our Gold and Silver sponsors, (Bristol Myers Squibb, Eisai, Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Roche) and the European Commission’s CERV programme (which provides our Operating Grant funding) for making this session possible. The next edition of the Alzheimer’s Association Academy is scheduled for 15 July 2025 and will focus on Awareness Campaigns.
