A coalition of 69 civil society organisations have co-signed a Civil Society Europe manifesto, “Civil Society for EU”, aiming to use the forthcoming European Parliament elections in 2024 to turn the tide of shrinking civil society space and limited civil dialogue all over Europe. The manifesto notes that civil society has the potential to become a permanent, empowered and engaged actor in future European governance, providing a voice and a role to some of the most marginalised groups in society. The manifesto calls for the strengthening of civil dialogue and civic space across the EU through better recognition, involvement and resourcing of civil society. Additionally, it calls on the European Parliament and Commission to take concrete steps to create an empowering environment for civil society during the next five-year term, starting from the development of a European Civil Society Strategy and of a Civil Dialogue Agreement.
