By the end of 2022, Alzheimer Athens will start running four new day-care centres for people with dementia and three mobile units, all over Greece, funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund for Greece.
The new centres will be located in the Attica and Epirus Regions and, more specifically in Piraeus, Neo Iraklion, Aspropirgos and the city of Arta.
Each unit will be fully staffed with experienced health professionals and will collaborate closely with municipalities, local social services and primary health care units. All units are located in low income or remote areas with no pre-existing dementia services.
In 2023, Alzheimer Athens will be doubling its personnel and will be running a total of nine day-care centres, four mobile units and a home care service. This new reality brings them one step closer to one of their major goals: to give immediate access to dementia care for people with dementia and their families, all over Greece. This is a huge challenge for Alzheimer Athens, and they embrace it with great enthusiasm knowing that their 20 years of efforts have brought them closer to meeting the needs of people with dementia in Greece and to making dementia a priority in Public Health.
