EMDA - the Alzheimer's Association of Israel - is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 by family members of people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

In Israel, the number of people with dementia is estimated at 150,000. Most of the people with dementia are cared for by their families within the community. The unique nature of the disease puts a physical, mental, and financial burden on the whole family. EMDA was founded to bring together families of people with dementia and to support their needs.

The association is a member of ADI (Alzheimer Disease International) and Alzheimer Europe and maintains close contact with them.

EMDA aims:

  • Creating a network offering information and emotional support for families of people with dementia.
  • Developing a system of support services for people with dementia and their families.
  • Raising public awareness and public knowledge about the illness and its problems, and the rights of the person with dementia and his or her family
  • Influencing decision makers to develop a wider range of services and promote the rights of people with dementia and their families.
  • Promoting research about the illness.
